House of Chapiz or Casa del Chapiz is a XIV Century house, that owes its name to the owners Lorenzo El Chapiz and Hernándo Lopez El Ferí. School for Arabic Studies has been based here since 1932. The visit to this house consists of two buildings that are connected by a plaster arch.
The main house belonging to Lorenzo El Chapiz is built around a patio that has several characteristic elements of the Nasrid culture, like the white marble columns or the central pool. Lorenzo el Chapiz also decided to build a second floor and added wooden balconies to the construction.
The second Moorish house, belonging to Hernándo Lopez El Ferí is a lot smaller and similarly to the other one, it contains a small pool in the middle. This house has a cistern to keep water. The water was used to drink and to irrigate the orchards. This house has a mixture of Gothic, Nasrid and Renaissance elements.
